Flat Pack

What The Audiences Are Saying

Recipient of the Arts on Tour 'Backroads Grant' 2025

‘Flat Pack’  emerged from a development as part of The Art House, Wyong's, 2023 grant round where creator, Danielle Brame Whiting worked with award winning writer, Vanessa Bates, and accomplished actor/dancer, Angie Diaz, to explore the idea that navigating life is a bit like putting a flat pack together with no instructions.

Flat Pack is the story of 49 year old Debbie Foster who's charged with packing up her father's garage eight years after moving him to a nursing home for dementia. This once meticulous building is now stuffed with boxes, papers and refuse. Before she can pack it all up, she must unpack the contents of each box and the many memories hidden within. Through the memories Debbie navigates her father's trauma as a Vietnam Veteran, her absent sisters disconnection, and her transition into becoming her parents carer. Amongst it all, there's a flat pack kit that needs assembling, and it did not come with instructions.

Flat Pack breaks down the fourth wall to share relatable stories with its audiences, embracing nostalgia, vulnerability and fun, to end up in a place of hope.
